On...Beginning

“The point in time or space at which something begins”

Life is a cycle of endings and beginnings. Every morning the sun rises and a new start is signalled by the darkness transforming into lightness. Handed to us is a blank page to do with as we wish.

So, on this bright and beautiful autumn day, I decided to finally start a blog. I want this space to be somewhere I can share the things that I am learning as a practising artist. The good, the bad and the ugly.

The past decade of making art on the side of everything else (uni, jobs, careers, relationships, family, friends, commitments and general life) has taught me more than I ever could have predicted as a young British Indian woman all those years ago.

On the one hand, I’ve made countless mistakes, procrastinated beyond a reasonable amount, made terrible paintings, gotten properly stressed out, have underestimated myself, have overestimated myself and have lost my way time and time again.

Then on the other hand, I’ve challenged myself creatively, focused on my artistic development, spent hours and hours having the best painting parties for one in my bedroom studio, exhibited with talented souls and met the most wonderful and inspiring people.

Upon reflection and with the beauty of experience, each of these moments have been humbling and growing. They have served as a reminder that there is always so much more to learn and so much more to do, and that the journey, not the outcome, is ultimately where the fulfilment lies.

As I sat and stared at my laptop on where the hell I should start, I remembered that taking action over simply thinking, is the hardest and most important part. Everything else follows. And so here I am, trusting in that inner wisdom, and beginning.
